LFM-2 System FAQ

Question:  What is the primary application of the LFM-2 System?
Answer:  The LFM-2 system was originally designed to monitor "black bag" and "red bag" waste in hospstals and treatment facilities, for radioactive material that might otherwise find its way to a solid waste facility such as landfill, trnasfer station or other waste processing facility.  This system is designed to monitor trash carts or carts carrying boxes of waste materials for the presence of detectable levels of gamma and X-ray radiation.

Question:  What other applications are there for LFM-2 system?
Answer:  While this system was designed for use in hospitals, it can be used in place of the LFM-1 as a low-cost vehicle monitor at landfills and other applications.

Question:  How is the LFM-2 configured?
Answer:  The LFM-2 system consists of the radiation monitor module, two radiation detector assemblies and two cables.  The radiation detector assemblies are designed to be installed and mounted opposing one another so that the monitored material is positioned between the two detectors.  The radiation monitor module is designed for desk-top mounting in any convenient indoor location.  Coaxial cables (50 feet each), which are supplied with the radiation detector assemblies, connect to the radiation monitor module.

Question:  What do the detectors consist of?
Answer:  The system consists of two lead-shielded, 50.8 mm (2 inch) diameter, Sodium Iodide scintillation detectors shock mounted in separate weatherproofed PVC housings.

Question:  What range of radiation is detected?
Answer:  Low, medium and high-energy Gamma and X-rays.

Question:  What is the sensitivity of the LFM-2?
Answer:  Will detect 100 micro Curies (µCi) Cesium 137 and 10 feet from a detector, and 10 µCi 137Cs at 38 inches from a detector, in a normal 10 µR/h background.

Question:  What is the P/N of the LFM-2 Detector Assembly and common components?
Answer:  LFM-2 radiation detector assembly - 1100700; 2 inch diameter detector probe - 14028001; detector housing consist of 9100422, 9840019 and decals.

Question:  What is the maximum cable length between the controller and detector?
Answer:  The maximum length of cable is 100 feet.
