Scientists in Canada and Germany have developed an
ultra-clean drill system for the extraction of pristine ice-cores from the Devon
Island Ice Cap, Canada. A Thermo Scientific Element 2 Sector-Field ICP-MS was
used for the ultratrace detection required for the evaluation. The
technique allowed detection of single figure pg/g levels of lead and
cadmium.
