Thermo Scientific CB Omni - Minerals Applications
Following a successful launch in the cement industry that has seen 40 Thermo Scientific CB Omni systems sold around the globe, the cross-belt analyzer has now been calibrated to provide elemental analysis to the mineral processing industry. Even though the CB Omni can be used wherever the composition of a raw material is important, typical applications in the minerals processing industry include the following:
Material Sorting
The Thermo Scientific CB Omni will provide minute-by-minute composition analysis of bulk materials and will therefore quickly identify when a material composition changes. This is important when sorting raw materials into stockpiles, whether by economical metal component or concentration of impurities. Materials can be automatically sorted based on their composition.
Blending stockpile control
The CB Omni will make quality targets simple to achieve by controlling the stockpile grade and chemistry. This can be achieved manually or automatically by using optional software. Whether the stockpile is longitudinal or circular, the CB Omni will provide greater consistency in stockpile control which ensures smoother downstream processing and provides more flexibility in mining operations.
Proportioning for feed uniformity
The chemical uniformity of the feed is a primary determinant of pyrometallurgical process efficiency. The CB Omni will ensure process efficiency is maximized through accurate measurement of blends, which can be managed automatically with optional software.
Minerals & Elements Measured
By using the PGNAA (Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation System) measurement technique the CB Omni has the ability to measure the lighter elements, but it is proven to accurately measure most recoverable metals. Typical materials measured by the CB Omni are:
