Thermo Fisher Scientific announces a new release of its industry-leading OES and XRF automation software
With more than 200 systems sold since its launch in 2002, the third generation of automated Thermo Scientific Optical Emission (OES) and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) spectrometers with ARL SMS-2000 is setting high standards in terms of speed, reliability and capacity to meet the most demanding process control applications.
The new automation software version is based on the software platform released recently with the OXSAS analytical software for OES and XRF spectrometers. This common software platform provides a unique and standardized software environment which greatly simplifies using fully automatic spectrometers for process control purposes in the metals, cement and mining industries:

Common procedures and philosophy for instrument and automation operation including audit trail, system monitoring and user privileges

The new software release, called ARL SMS version 6, provides an integrated automation solution for a large variety of configurations including different sample preparation techniques for metals and oxides, a choice of 5 different OES and XRF spectrometers. It supports a full range of automation devices such as linear or X-Y manipulators as well as different robots to cover the full application range from simple systems to larger configurations involving multiple instruments. The new platform further simplifies the support of the installed base of more than 400 systems by maintaining one software version for all applications; this single product design is unique in ensuring easy upgrade paths for customers and the durability of their investments.
