TESTIMONIAL: ARL QUANTRIS at PMG Germany

Pressmetal Gunzenhausen (PMG) is a German top manufacturer of aluminum diecastings that continuously invests in automation and optimization of its manufacturing processes to remain competitive on its market place. The company was founded in 1962 and was capable to grow its turnover from 25 M€ in 1994 to nearly 70 M€ in 2004.

Hereafter the testimony of Mr. Dipl.-Ing.Oliver Melzer, Production Leader at PMG.:

“For a foundry like PMG (Pressmetall Gunzenhausen), that delivers 90 % of its products to automotive customers, a reliable spectrometer is absolutely necessary. As, in the past, we made already good experiences with instruments from Thermo, it was natural for a new investment to look first after Thermo.

It was important to us to get a reliable and user-friendly instrument that delivers very reproducible and accurate results. Finally, it was, among others, the flexibility of the new CCD technology and the capacity to add additional elements at any moment that convinced us.

The instrument is operating since March 2004 without any major problem. We are working in a 18 shifts operation (6/7, 24/24). Our 550 employees refine approximately 50 tons of aluminum per day to diecasting parts that are partially ready for mounting. About 30 analyses are performed every day (control of incoming qualities as well as production control) from the 5 aluminum alloys that are used. Every three weeks, a specially trained employee performs maintenance and standardization operations on the instrument. Our customers, for example, Bosch, Conti Temic, INA, Siemens VDO or Webasto, can rely on the results delivered by the ARL QUANTRIS.”
