ToxLab Operations - 3Days
Toxlab operations course is designed to familiarize the student with the operations of Toxlab software for use in the quantitative analysis of drugs of abuse in body fluids.
This course consists of lectures along with hands-on experiments to further enhance the learning experience. This course requires the student to be familiar with Xcalibur software and have a general understanding of mass spectrometry and gas chromatography.

This course is designed for either chromatographers or mass spectrometrists who are interested in learning the other part of the hyphenated technique (LC-MS). The student will learn fundamental theories, technical information and gain hands-on experience for developing LC-MS and LC-MS/MS methods.
Students are encouraged to bring their method development questions and issues with them to class.
Basic HPLC Training Operations - 2 Days
This introductory course is designed for new users to the technique of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) as both a qualitative and quantitative means of analysis. Through lectures as well as hands-on lab experience students will gain an understanding of the method development process related to liquid chromatography.
The course material includes:
- HPLC theory and stationary phase design
- The various modes of chromatographic separation (i.e. Reversed Phase, Normal Phase, etc.)

HPLC Method Development for LC/MS Operations - 3 Days
This course is designed to introduce the underlying principles of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with an emphasis on mass spectrometry (MS) as a means of detection. The course will cover the theory of separation and detection for both Thermo LC/UV and Thermo LC/MS systems as well as method development strategies for robust LC-MS methods.
The course material includes:
- HPLC theory
- MS theory (both quadrupole and ion trap)
- Mobile phase considerations for UV and MS detection
- Choosing the proper stationary phase
- Troubleshooting separations

Xcalibur Software Module - 2.5 Days
This training module is designed to familiarize students with the operation of Xcalibur software. It encompasses both GC-MS and LC-MS users of Thermo’s core software program. The course will provide users with an understanding of the use of Xcalibur for both qualitative and quantitative analysis, as well as instrument set up. Students will be able to gain hands-on experience and work through multiple Xcalibur practicals.

ChromQuest Software Module (LC) - 3 Days
The ChromQuest for HPLC Software Course is designed for ChromQuest Software users interested in maximizing their knowledge of the software for use with Thermo HPLC Systems only (ChromQuest GC users please see appropriate course). Using lecture techniques and hands-on experience the student will gain an understanding of everything from instrument configuration to spectral analysis.

ChromQuest Software Module (GC) - 3 days
This hands-on course uses real samples to familiarize the student with the operation of ChromQuest software for use in qualitative and quantitative analysis of GC detector data. The following items will be covered:

- Integration events

Finnigan Surveyor MSQ Plus Operations - 3 Days
The MSQ+ Operations Course is designed to familiarize the new MSQ+ user with basic instrument operation, including API and mass spectrometry theory. The class will also cover compound optimization, calibration of the instrument, data collection, and user level maintenance. The Xcalibur software package will thoroughly be explored. Students will gain hands-on experience and become familiar with the MSQ+ Instrument.
The course material includes:
- LC/MS operational methodology
- Overview of quadrupole instrumentation

Basic Gas Chromatography (GC) - 2 Days
This course is designed for someone with little or no chromatography experience. Most of the items presented above will be put into practice by doing hands-on experiments with real samples. This will further reaffirm the material taught in the classroom. This class is a prerequisite for the GC Methods Development class.
The course material includes:
- Gas chromatograph setup and requirements.
- GC components: Inlets (Split/Splitless, PTV, COC), Detectors (FID, TCD, NPD, ECD, FPD), Injectors (manual injection) and column technology.
- Running the Instrument – Data Collection and Viewing.
- Chromatography Theory – Plate theory, chromatographic resolution.
- Qualitative and Quantitative analysis using GC
EI/CI Interpretation Module - 2.5 Days
This course is designed to introduce the underlying principles of "classical" mass spectrometry and teach the fundamental processes involved in interpreting electron ionization (EI) and chemical ionization (CI) mass spectra.
Some mass spectrometry knowledge is required, in addition an understanding of basic organic chemistry is recommended.

Method Development in Capillary GC - 3 Days
This hands-on course is designed to heighten the GC and GC/MS user’s understanding surrounding the principles of gas chromatography separations with emphasis in method development. You will learn what type of carrier gas, which injection technique to use and how to set it up. Also you will learn about the different types of capillary columns that can be used and when to use isothermal or temperature programming conditions for your chromatography. The course will also cover the most common different detectors available for GC.

EnviroLab Forms 2.0 Operations - 4 Days
This is a 4 day hands on course that directly trains customers to have skills in use and full understanding of EnviroLab Forms 2.0 Software. This course is designed to train customers to a level of competence to use EnviroLab Forms 2.0 to operate GCMS. Acquire data in accordance with the design of ELF2.0 and process results. This course uses the entire GCMS as a tool for measurement with the software controlling all functions.
