Finnigan LCQ Operations - 4 Days

The LCQ Operations course is designed for users new to the LCQ and covers mass spectrometry and chromatography in general, with emphasis on small molecule applications. The course involves lecture material, software training and hands-on sessions, involving tuning, calibration and comprehensive LC/MS method development, using both electrospray and atmospheric pressure chemical ionization. A detailed training manual is included with a CD containing all data acquired during the training course and additional material. 

The course material includes:

  • Ion Trap Theory
  • Tuning and Calibration
  • Hands-on APCI and ESI MS
  • Instrument Method Development for LC/MS
  • Multi-stage MSn Method Building

Finnigan LCQ Biotech Operations - 4 Days

This course is intended for users of the LCQ family of instruments using the instrument for peptide and protein work. The course describes: Hands-on activities will involve performing experiments in tuning, data acquisition, and interpretation. Course size is limited to maximize experience with the instrumentation. There are no prerequisites for this course. The course is taught using the current shipping version of the instrument and software and may not reflect the instruments or software you are currently using.

  • Hands-on ESI and NSI MS
  • Instrument Method Development for nano LC/MS

Finnigan LXQ Operations - 4 Days

The LXQ Operations course is designed for users new to the LXQ and covers mass spectrometry and chromatography in general, with emphasis on small molecule applications. The course involves lecture material, software training and long hands-on sessions, involving tuning, calibration and comprehensive LC/MS method development, using both electrospray and atmospheric pressure chemical ionization. LTQ XL ETD - 4 Days

This course is designed for experienced LC/MS users who perform protein analysis on the LTQ XL mass spectrometer equipped with the electron transfer dissociation (ETD) source. The course will introduce students to the use of ETD as an alternative to collision induced dissociation (CID) for the structural analysis of proteins and peptides and the identification of post-translational modifications (PTM). In addition, the course will cover electrospray ionization (ESI) of protein and peptides, tuning using nanospray, and optimization of Data Dependent TM acquisition. The curriculum will feature lectures, in-depth discussions of qualitative analysis, and hands-on training using the latest versions of Xcalibur TM and BioWorks TM software.  A detailed training manual and a CD containing data acquired during the course are included, along with additional course materials.

Students who desire Xcalibur software training should attend the Xcalibur Software Operations course.

Finnigan LTQ Orbitrap Operations - 4 Days

The LTQ-Orbitrap Operations course is designed for users that have either completed the LC/MS for Beginners course or have previous LC/MS experience. Experience in FTMS is not required. The course covers mass spectrometry and chromatography in general with an emphasis on small molecule, accurate mass applications.

The course covers mass spectrometry and chromatography in general with an emphasis on small molecule, accurate mass applications.

Prerequisite: Practical LC/MS for Beginners course or previous experience developing LC/MS methods.

This course will inculcate the Finnigan TSQ Quantum Ultra AM user with detailed operational procedures requisite for the acquisition of accurate mass data. Nominal/High-resolution/Accurate Mass tuning and calibration, and data collection will be covered.  It is encouraged that students have prior exposure to accurate mass procedures, as well as in-depth understanding of the principles of organic chemistry and enhanced chromatographic skills.

The MSQ+ Operations Course is designed to familiarize the new MSQ+ user with basic instrument operation, including API and mass spectrometry theory. The class will also cover compound optimization, calibration of the instrument, data collection, and user level maintenance. The Xcalibur software package will thoroughly be explored. Students will gain hands-on experience and become familiar with the MSQ+ Instrument.

This course is specific to the Finnigan LTQ-Orbitrap Mass Spectrometer product and will include instruction for electrospray ionization (ESI) of proteins and peptides, tuning using nanospray, and optimization of data-dependent acquisition. In addition, there will be an in depth discussion of qualitative analysis and processing accurate mass methods with the XCalibur and BioWorks 3.2 software packages followed by hands-on applications of software to data sets.

This course is intended for peptide and protein users of the ion trap and triple quadrupole family of instruments.  The course teaches the software package only and assumes the user is versed in data dependent scanning and Xcalibur.

LTQ/LTQ XL Biotech Operations – 4 Days

This instrument-specific course focuses on electrospray ionization (ESI) of proteins and peptides, tuning using nanospray, and Data Dependent™ acquisition. Additionally, the course provides in-depth discussion and hands-on learning of qualitative analysis using the latest version of Xcalibur™ and BioWorks™ software. A detailed training manual and a CD containing data acquired during the course are included, along with additional course materials.

Accela UHPLC Training - 2 Days

This introductory course is designed for users who are new to the Accela™ UHPLC System. Through lectures and hands-on lab experience, students will gain an understanding of the method development process related to liquid chromatography for standard and high-pressure separations.

The course will include information about: 

  • UHPLC theory and stationary phase design
  • The various modes of chromatographic separation (i.e., Reversed Phase, Normal Phase, etc.)
  • Developing robust methods for high-pressure separations
  • Mobile phase selection
  • Troubleshooting separations

Mass Frontier 5.0 Software Operations Course - 2 Days

The aim of this training course is to provide new users with the ability to use Mass Frontier 4.0 software to its full potential. Detailed presentations will be given on all Mass Frontier modules together with hands on exercises in order to ensure understanding of all the processes. The students will become familiar with the subjects of database generation and manipulation, spectra interpretation, as well as compound classification with the use of statistics. By the end of the course they should be able to apply all software applications for their own purposes.

The 2-day course will provide in-depth presentations and hands-on exercises on all the modules Mass Frontier 4.0 offers: Database Manager, Chromatogram Processor, Fragments and Mechanisms, Spectra Classifier. In addition, a short course on the interpretation of CID spectra will be included in order to allow the users to update the Fragmentation Library module with new mechanisms.

QuickQuan Quantum Operations - Quantitative Analysis - 3 Days

Gain a complete knowledge of QuickQuan- the powerful software package that operates with Xcalibur and your TSQ system. With minimal user input, the software aids drug discovery labs to automatically optimize new chemical entities (NCE’s) for SRM experiments, generate LC/MS/MS methods, and perform quantitative analysis. The data is processed automatically, generating instant customized results using Xreport templates or custom Excel macro templates. (Course also known as TSQ Quantum Quick Quan)
