Complimentary Webcast Series

Need a brief primer on atomic absorption spectroscopy? Never learned the essentials of LC-MS? No problem. The world-class instructors at our training institutes have developed a series of Webinars to address fundamental techniques associated with your work.

Meet our instructors:

Dr. Amber Kohl
Amber has been with Thermo Fisher Scientific as a technical instructor since 2006. Amber earned a bachelor’s degree and doctoral degree from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. Her doctoral research included the use of ESI and APCI-LC/MS to identify biologically active compounds in cell culture samples inoculated from marine soft corals. Additionally, Amber possesses experience in the use of GC/MS for the analysis of volatile hydrocarbons involved in the biosynthesis of promising drug leads from these corals. Amber was a Top 100 NASA astronaut candidate in 2003 and the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships. She can be contacted by email at amber.kohl@thermofisher.com.

Rodger Starek
Rodger has been with Thermo Fisher Scientific for twenty years and has worked as a technical instructor since 2004. Rodger specializes in giving customer training on both AA and ICP products. He received his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. After graduation, he began his career as a service engineer working on DC plasma spectrometers. Three years later, he moved to the Silicon Valley to provide leadership as Chief Chemist at a precious metals refinery that refines electronic scrap from semi-conductors. As his career matured, Rodger worked in the R&D department of a clinical laboratory where he helped develop new instrument and techniques and brought them on-line. He can be contacted by email at rodger.starek@thermofisher.com.

Dr. Shinobu T. Heier
Shinobu has been with Thermo Fisher Scientific as a technical instructor since 2006. She received her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Iowa State University in Ames and received her doctoral degree in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Arizona in Tucson. She supports FT-IR and Raman product lines. Her expertise is in the area of surface vibrational spectroscopy. She can be contacted by email at shinobu.heier@thermofisher.com.

Dr. E. Dinish Pillai
Dinish has been with Thermo Fisher Scientific as a technical instructor since 2007. Dinesh holds a bachelor’s degree in Physics and Chemistry from Berea College in Kentucky and a doctoral degree in Chemistry from the University of Georgia in Athens. His doctoral work involved studying the interactions of small molecules with transition metals in the gas phase using IR laser spectroscopy. Pillai is an applications training specialist with the FT-IR group for Thermo Fisher and specializes in gas phase FT-IR analysis. He can be contacted by email at dinesh.pillai@thermofisher.com.
