Waltham, Mass. (January 31, 2005) Thermo Electron Corporation announced that it has recently opened a new European Center of Excellence for Mass Spectrometry in Bremen, Germany. The new site includes a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for Thermo's line of advanced mass spectrometers used for drug discovery, environmental and industrial applications.
Marijn Dekkers, president and CEO of Thermo, said of the new facility, "Thermo has emerged as the world's leading analytical instruments company with the mission to provide instrument solutions that enable our customers to make the world a healthier, cleaner and safer place. This new facility is a critical component of our long-term strategy for the global mass spectrometry market. In addition to having this excellent manufacturing site, we have also established a new research and development laboratory for mass spectrometry, as well as a fully equipped customer demonstration center."
The new application laboratory in Bremen features instruments for five mass spectrometer products: Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance, Organic Sector, Isotope Ratio, High Resolution Inductively Coupled Plasma and Thermal Ionization. It has a clean lab for semiconductor applications as well as a conference center. The facility also provides room for future growth and is located in an attractive high technology area.
