ORLANDO, Florida (March 3, 2005) – Thermo Electron Corporation announces two new additions to its recently launched range of TRACE™ GC columns, the TRACE TR-WaxMS and the TRACE TR-1701. These new columns are characterized by a high temperature range and low bleed levels, leading to higher sensitivity, less need for instrument cleaning and longer column lifetimes and they will be exhibited at the Thermo Electron booth #2917 at PITTCON 2005, Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Florida, February 27-March 4.

Designed to offer application-focused solutions to customers in the petrochemical, food and beverage and environmental industries, Thermo’s enhanced GC range of TRACE GC columns, syringes and consumables including injection port liners, ferrules and septa, is designed to complement Thermo’s innovative range of Finnigan™ GC and GC/MS systems.

High polarity GC columns typically have lower temperature ranges than low polarity dimensionally equivalent ones. This severely limits the use of mass spectrometry for detection as well as the range of compounds that can be analyzed. Thermo’s new TRACE TR-WaxMS column features high stability phase bonding that results in low bleed and an extended Maximum Allowable Operating Temperature of 300°C. This stability also results into a strong resistance to water, which combined with the temperature range makes the TR-WaxMS one of the most versatile, sensitive, stable and long-lasting WAX phase GC columns on the market. This column is ideal for alcohol, ester and aldehyde analysis.

The new TRACE TR-1701 capillary GC column, with 14% cyanopropylphenyl polysiloxane offering a different elution order, is an important addition for those involved in the analysis and detection of pesticides and related compounds. In combination with other columns such as the TR-5 or TR-50MS, the more mid-polarity TR-1701 phase can be used to confirm and identify the pesticides detected.
