Karlsruhe, Germany (July 15, 2005) - Thermo Electron Corporation, the world leader in analytical instruments, announced today that Markus Schreyer has been promoted to managing director of the company?s Karlsruhe facility, effective immediately. He assumes responsibilities for site management from Dr. Hartmut Braun, who announced to employees earlier this month that he was leaving the company for personal reasons.

Greg Tucker, President of Thermo?s Control Technologies Business, commented, ?In his role as managing director and president of the Material Characterization business, Dr. Braun consolidated a fragmented business and positioned it for future growth with the launch of two key rheology platforms.? Tucker continued, ?Dr. Braun decisively helped to stabilize our market share and to strengthen our strategic position. We regret his departure, but respect his decision and appreciate his dedication and commitment to the business.?

In addition to Schreyer?s responsibilities as managing director, his role of Vice President of Global Sales now encompasses Material Characterization products. Tucker stated, ?Control Technologies is consolidating the business one step further by creating a unified functional leadership team. Our goal is to better serve customers across the entire business.? Tucker continued, ?With his diverse, global experience, I?m confident Schreyer will address customer needs for both Material Characterization and Temperature Control products.?

In his past 15 years with Thermo, Schreyer has held a variety of positions, including Business Unit Manager, Polymer Technologies. Schreyer has been based in the US for the past four years during his tenure as Vice President. Said Schreyer, ?Our customer base comprises global, world-class companies that demand world-class suppliers. My team and I are looking forward to the challenge of helping Control Technologies achieve this goal.?
