 The Thermo Scientific FAIMS interface works in combination with the Thermo Scientific H-ESI and APCI ion probes on the Thermo Scientific TSQ Quantum series mass spectrometers to increase selectivity in challenging assays. When used in combination with H-SRM, unsurpassed selectivity and specificity are achieved.

New! FAIMS technology is now available for multiple degrees of separation on the industry-leading Thermo Scientific ion trap MS systems.

Thermo Scientific ion trap mass spectrometers, when coupled with the FAIMS interface, allow users to selectively isolate target compounds based on a number of physical properties, including charge state and molecular conformation.

The high-Field Asymmetric waveform Ion Mobility Spectrometry (FAIMS) interface is used in LC-MS method development to quickly and effectively resolve analytical challenges. The FAIMS interface is located in the atmospheric pressure region between the ion source and the mass spectrometer, providing a dimension of separation that is complementary with liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. The increase in selectivity provided to LC-MS leads to accelerated method development and improved assay robustness.

The FAIMS interface provides an increase in selectivity by utilizing changes that occur in the behavior of an ion when subjected to alternating low and high electric fields. These changes in ion behavior are used by FAIMS to provide ion filtering, resulting in LC-MS chromatograms with reduced chemical background and endogenous interferences. The temperature control of the interface ensures excellent day-to-day reproducibility of the system.
