The Model 6186 FRM Diesel Exhaust Filter Holder System is
composed of a test cell ready filter holder, filter cassettes, and PM-2.5 inlet,
which may be purchased separately. The components are designed to provide
high-quality samples of diluted diesel exhaust that meet the USEPA requirements
for 2007 heavy duty diesel particulate emissions standards and beyond.
The system easily attaches to a diesel dilution tunnel, and quickly replaces existing 70 or 90 mm diameter filter holders with the new 47 mm filter diameter size specified in the new USEPA requirements. The design of the system components benefits from R&P's long history of providing manual particulate matter sampling products.
The Model 6186 Diesel Particulate Sampling System provides the following features:
- Meets USEPA specifications for CFR Part 86 Subpart N revisions for the certification of heavy duty diesel engines.
- Dual-stage filter holder to meet EU (European Union) diesel particulate matter sampling regulations.
- Designed for 30-100 l/min flow rates.

- Laser etched serial number ID (identification) on the filter cassette backing screens simplified the tracking of samples.

- Filter cassette for 47 mm diameter filters.
- Single- or dual-stage filter holder to house filter cassettes.
- PM-2.5 DSCC (Diesel Sharp Cut Cyclone) inlet.

Filter Cassette for 47 mm Diameter Filters
The filter cassette supplied as part of the Model 6186 FRM Exhaust Filter Holder System is manufactured using a molding process to ensure consistency of fit and structural integrity. The upper and lower sections snap together, and house a stainless steel backing screen and 47 mm diameter sample filter.
The stainless steel backing screen is designed for low pressure drop, and is etched with a unique serial number to facilitate the tracking of samples.
Filter Holder for 47 mm Diameter Filters
The stainless steel filter holder included in the Model 6186 system is available in a single-stage configuration for USEPA requirements and as a two-stage device for EU (European Union) regulations. Both types are rugged, and incorporate a unique hinge and clamp design to facilitate the exchange of filter cassettes.
The beveled upper section of the filter cassette ensures the proper seating of the filter cassette in the holder. Adaptive sealing components ensure the leak-tightness around the filter cassette.
Diesel Sharp Cut Cyclone (DSCC)
The Diesel Sharp Cut Cyclone is designed to remove particles larger than approximately 2.5 micron diameter from the sample stream, while providing a 99% flow-through of particles 1 micron in diameter and smaller. The particle separator is designed for operation between 30 and 100 l/min.
The inlet is available in a number of different configurations to accommodate a variety of test cell geometries.
