DensityPRO-C Nuclear Density Gauge

  DensityPRO-C Nuclear Density Gauge

Designed for the process industry, the Thermo Scientific DensityPRO-C uses an extremely small nuclear source size to reliably measure the density of liquids, slurries, solutions or emulsions. This rugged, precise and dependable gauge withstands high shock and vibration better than any other in its class, providing stable performance under the most demanding conditions.

   Product Detail

From refining and mining to pulp and paper, the DensityPRO-C is an economical and versatile nuclear density gauge designed for rugged industrial applications. It uses ionizing radiation to accurately and reliably measure the density of process material in both horizontal and vertical pipes that range in size from one inch (25.4 mm) to 40 inches (1020 mm). An extremely small nuclear source and a scintillation detector, are mounted externally to provide highly accurate, non-contacting density measurement. Depending on the application, the source size may vary slightly based on the pipe size, wall thickness, process material and the precision required.

The DensityPRO-C detector features surface-mounted electronics. Due to their compact size, the electronics endure high shock and vibration and have proven to withstand a minimum of 11 G’s at 40 Hz over an extended timeframe with no adverse effects, ensuring the dependability of the gauge over the long run. In addition, the multiprocessor-based electronics ensure uninterrupted output during data entry. All user data is doubly stored in non-volatile memory with no battery back-up required.

Because density measurement may be affected by temperature, the detector can be equipped with an optional temperature compensation board and a resistive temperature device (RTD). When connected to the detector, the RTD allows the temperature readings to be input to account for temperature fluctuations.

Additional capabilities include:

  • Alarm condition response via an isolated, self-powered 4 to 20 mA current output connected to either a programmable logic controller (PLC) to function as a relay or to a distributed control system (DCS).
  • One point calibration via an additional RS485 serial output that communicates with a handheld terminal using Thermo Scientific TMT Comm software.
  • Ability to daisy-chain up to 32 additional sensors via RS485 output.
  • Connecting a flow meter directly to the transmitter’s detector interface board to provide an input. The gauge then calculates mass flow and outputs this data over one available isolated 4 to 20 mA output. Values can be sent to a remote terminal or host computer as serial data.

As a basic nuclear density gauge, the DensityPRO-C provides exceptional functionality, precision and durability. It is intended for applications not requiring an RS232 output, HART communication or relays. For more sophisticated requirements, see the Thermo Scientific DensityPRO and DensityPRO+.
