Orion

  Orion

The Thermo Scientific Orion is a robotic field charging CDM (Charged Device Model) ESD tester comprising a system controller, flat panel display and operating software.  A front panel mounted shelf contains the keyboard and mouse for user convenience.  The emergency stop switch and a wrist grounding strap connector are also conveniently located.

   Product Detail

The system is designed to meet the JEDEC, ESDA and AEC charged Device Model ESD test standards and includes the discharge probes, associated hardware and calibration disks specified in these standards.  The test area is fully enclosed with an antistatic, transparent safety cover, which allows the test area to be purged with dry nitrogen when testing in high humidity environments.  The system also includes an event detector to confirm the ESD discharge has occurred and a built in waveform monitor probe to allow easy connection to an appropriate oscilloscope to view the waveform for calibration and monitoring purposes.

EvaluWave waveform verification software is available to analyze the CDM pulse and provide the measured waveform parameter and compare them to the appropriate test standard.  The software then provides a PASS/FAIL report.

The system is designed to test high pin count parts with densities of up to 400 pins per square centimeter (0.5mm pitch).  The robotic motion system has minimum step movements in the X and Y-axis of 3.9 x 3.9” (100 x 100 mm) travel.  The device under test is held in place by a vacuum chuck and alignment assured by an adjustable fixture.

The operating software allows the user to create and save device files, program complete test sequences or run waveform calibration test routines.  The software contains a library of popular package types so the user can select the appropriate package; edit the pin count, dimensional information and other necessary device information and SAVE AS a specific file name for future use.  The software allows the user to program the test voltages; software allows the user to program the test voltages, polarity and the delay time between pulses.  The test capability includes test voltages of up to 1kV in increments of 10 volts with options for 2kV.  The discharge probes for the JEDEC, ESDA and AEC test methods are easily changed in a matter of minutes.

The Event Detector monitors the device discharge and records the event.  If a discharge is not detected, the user has the option at the end of the test routine to test the missed pins.  The pins may have been missed due to misalignment or bent or damaged pins on the device.  The system software automatically positions the robotic arm over the appropriate pin, allowing the operator to check alignment before testing.
