GGT present in the serum originates primarily from the hepatobiliary system, and its activity is elevated in all forms of liver disease. Increased concentrations of the enzyme are also found in chronic alcoholism and with anticonvulsant therapy.

The GGT reagent is intended for the in vitro quantitative determination gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) in human serum or plasma.
