Phosphorus plays an important role in the structural support of the body as well as an essential element in enzyme systems, phospholipids and phosphoproteins, gene transcription and cell growth. Increases occur in individuals with hypoparathyroidism, renal failure, hypocalcemia, and diabetic ketoacidosis. Decreases are observed with insulin injections, malabsorption, respiratory alkalosis, hyperparathyroidism, rickets, and osteomalacia.
The Phosphorus reagent is intended for the in vitro quantitative determination of Inorganic Phosphorus in human serum, plasma or urine.
