XR5 - Microfocused Monochromated X-ray Source

Twin crystal source for microfocused, mochromated XPS
The XR5 provides a straightforward, affordable, monochromated XPS facility. The excellent performance is achieved by using a high power x-ray source and a twin, torrodially bent crystals to diffract and focus the x-ray beam.

The design is based on the successful twin crystal monochromated X-ray source design used in the ESCALAB 250 instrument.

Twin crystal

The twin crystal design ensures the monochromator is very stable and less prone to thermal drift compared with designs that resort to multiple crystal geometry to achieve high sensitivity. Optimising the crystal monochromator performance also requires few alignments and adjustments, making instrument set up very simple.
