Available in standard and ruggedized forms, the G5 "Fidler" is capable of detecting plutonium and other gamma and x-ray sources across the energy spectrum. The G5's origins lie in its conception as a component of the "Broken Arrow" emergency response instrumentation kits.
Product Detail
In order to assist users in the handling of the highly responsive G5 x-ray/gamma probes, the G5 accessories make survey work more convenient by enabling the G5 probes to be held or mounted in various positions according to user need. A rubber-footed platform provides a stable base when resting the probe on a horizontal surface while different handles & holders enable the G5 to be used in horizontal, vertical, and out-of-reach positions.
The G5 consists of a 5 inch diameter (127 mm) Nal (TI) crystal/photomultiplier assembly. Principal use: detection of 10-100 keV gamma emissions from degraded Pu or Pu-Am spectra. Secondary use: an excellent 125I detector.
Ruggedized version for field use includes a secondary scratch-resistant kapton window
Further improve the sensitivity by use of a hand held rate meter featuring a single channel analyser (e.g., Analyst, Electra, or Delta 5)
Connector: MHV
G5 "Fidler" Sodium Iodide Probe Accessories
The G5HH and G5HH-R (for the ruggedized version) handles let you hold the probe so that its long axis is in a horizontal orientation while surveying. A platform with three rubber feet provides a stable base for resting the probe on a horizontal surface. For a vertical orientation (as when surveying the ground, floors, or other horizontal surfaces), use the G5VH handle. This handle fits both standard and ruggedized G5s, and its length is adjustable.
