The SFM1A is a single foot monitor for monitoring staff in plants where alpha-emitting radionuclides are processed. Each monitor consists of an alpha scintillation detector with a ZnS(Ag) phosphor and thin radiation window protected by a robust grille, and electronics to generate the detector HV and to process the radiation signals. Proper foot positioning is maintained by sensors which guide the user via a Recheck display light. Additional lights are provided to indicate Ready, Monitoring, Clear, Alarm and Fault.
