The Harshaw 90-Sr irradiator is of approximately 0.5 mCi strength, producing a nominal exposure rate of approximately 10 mR/s. This irradiator may be calibrated by the user to a NIST-calibrated source and used to calibrate TLD Reader and Dosimeters.

Harshaw 6600 and 8800 model TLD readers can be fitted with an optional 90Sr Internal Irradiator. All irradiations are performed under the control of the Reader's firmware; the associated REMS software and PC are not required for this operation. The firmware automatically compensates for normal source decay, eliminating the need for frequent calibrations. Irradiations may be defined by exposure or time.
