The Thermo Scientific Model 5012 MAAP measures the aerosol-related absorption of light and the corresponding atmospheric black carbon mass concentration. Continuous data is provided by a multiple detector setup to simultaneously measure the transmitted and the scattered light from a particle-loaded filter.
Product Detail
This black carbon monitoring instrument has been especially designed to carry out continuous emission measurements of black carbon. The portion of elemental carbon to be found in ambient air is determined by applying a method which is based on a combination of the reflectometer method at certain scattering angles and the transmission. The Model 5012 serves to continuously measure and monitor the particulate pollutant species black carbon expressed as mass concentration (ng/m³) in a continuous operating environment.
Key Features:
Measuring principle used for continuous measurements: Multi-angle photometer, combination of the reflectometer method a certain scattering angles and the transmission
Functionality check possible via serial interface
Status messages
Permanent, automatic error monitoring, the detailed error status is entered into a log-book
Storage of half-hourly mean values over an entire year (optional)
Reference made to operating flow rate at the sampling head or to standard flow rate
Two serial interfaces ensuring a measuring network and printer or maintenance PC to be simultaneously connected to the monitor on site
Compact, rugged mechanical components; 19”-rack
Applications:
Typical applications include determining ambient elemental carbon for health-related effects and aerosol light absorption for visibility monitoring (regional haze) and climate reasearch.
