Dimension4 Flip Movers move microplates at high speeds between laboratory instruments and the Dimension4 Linear Plate Transport (LPT), enabling users of Polara software to achieve ultra high throughput in such applications as ELISA, cellular assays, and fluorescence assays.
Every Flip Mover features a pneumatic gripper attached to a rotating arm that enables the Flip Mover to pick up a microplate from the LPT and place it precisely into a lab device receptacle, and vice versa, at an average speed of 2 seconds per microplate.
Thermo Scientific PlateLevel™ and motion control technologies enable the highly compact Flip Mover to keep the microplate moving fast at all times without spilling or otherwise compromising its contents. An integrated microplate presence sensor ensures reliable gripping.
The following options enable the Flip Mover to serve a wide range of lab instruments and peripherals:
- A fixed pneumatic gripper enables the Flip Mover to grasp a microplate and move it at maximum speed between the LPT and an instrument
- An indexing gripper enables the Flip Mover to rotate the microplate 90º, 180º, 270º, or 360º (from portrait to landscape orientation, for example)
- A linear pneumatic track mounting enables the Flip Mover to place the microplate in either of two different receptacle positions (such as those in a liquid handler)
- A choice of portrait or landscape gripper fingers enables the Flip Mover to adapt to a wide variety of top-loading microplate receptacle geometries
The Dimension4 Flip Mover also features extraordinarily reliable operation, with an estimated 6 million cycles between failure, and no maintenance.
The Dimension4 Flip Mover is easy to integrate and operate. All electrical power and control signals are contained in a single umbilical cable, which connects the unit to its controller. Windows-based software makes teaching and testing Flip Mover locations fast and simple. Automatic homing minimizes system startup times and reduces operator intervention.
The Dimension4 Flip Movers handle all microtiter plates that conform to the SBS standards, and a wide and continuously expanding range of lidded and unlidded microtiter plates, deep- and half-well plates, filter plates, thermocycler plates, and other plate types from such manufacturers as Corning, Becton Dickinson Falcon, NUNC, and Whatman.
The safety features of the Flip Mover include a failsafe brake on the rotating arm that holds the arm in position if power is cut, adjustable hardstops that restrict arm and gripper movement to safe ranges, and highly visible LEDs that provide instant indication of the unit's operational status.
The Flip Mover is controlled by the Dimension4 Controller, which supplies power, motion control, safety circuits, and diagnostics. The Controller interfaces with the Polara 2 open architecture lab automation software.
