PSM-400MPX Particle Size Analyzer

  PSM-400MPX Particle Size Analyzer

The Thermo Fisher Scientific Particle Size Monitor PSM-400MPX provides accurate, in-stream particle size distribution analysis of slurries. The PSM will provide real-time analyses on up to 3 streams with 5 particle size fractions measured simultaneously. Streams with distributions varying between p80’s of 290 and 25 micron can be accommodated. With the information from the PSM, plant operators can optimize grinding circuit performance. This will improve final product quality, metal recovery and energy costs.
   Product Detail

The Thermo Fisher Scientific Particle Size Monitor PSM-400MPX provides on-line particle size distributions and % solids. The analysis technique is based on ultrasound absorption. This has been used by Thermo companies for over 20 years and is well proven with superior accuracy (0.75% at one sigma).  The design is rugged for continuous operation in harsh environments. The analyser requires no dilution (up to 60 % solids) and a large, representative flow passes the transducers.

Traditional grinding circuit control is based on feed rate or power control loops The PSM-400 MPX multipoint analyses enables product size-based grinding circuit control. This allows optimisation of both recovery and throughput.

The PSM system has easy calibration. It has a modern user interface and communication links fully compatible with plant information and control systems.

Thermo has a global network of expert service engineers to support your operations.

The PSM-400 MPX is skid-mounted for easy and quick plant installation. It comprises four main components:

  1. Primary Sampler
  2. The sample conditioner is a vacuum assisted slurry centrifuge for sampling and de-aeration.
  3. The sample analysis module comprises the flow cell for the ultrasonic transducers, a calibration sampler which doubles as a production composite sampler and a system of valves for standardization and by-pass.
  4. The control and display module

On Cyclone Overflow streams, the PSM-400 MPX can be combined with the Analysis and Sampling Station to provide an integrated engineered solution for metallurgical sampling, elemental analysis and particle size analysis.

Features List

The PSM 400 continuously measures and reports:

  • 5 particle size fractions simultaneously
  • slurry density or % solids
  • Up to 3 streams with a multiplexer
  • Period averages, trends and historical data logging.

The PSM 400 can be used in grinding circuits in the following ways:

  • To detect cyclone disturbances such as blockage and roping in cyclone underflow.
  • To maximise mill throughput at constant grind size.
  • To avoid over-grinding and slimes production (due to, for example, change in ore type).
