Tandem mass spectrometers like the Thermo Scientific LTQ™ and LTQ FT™ are capable of generating tens of thousands of MS/MS spectra per hour for typical proteomics experiments, all of which may result in unique peptide and protein identifications following a Sequest database search. As a result, scientists need the capability to search these data quickly and conveniently, without the need for a large IT infrastructure.
Sequest Sorcerer provides a fully-integrated, compact platform of high performance computing designed specifically to accelerate protein database searches from LC-MS/MS data using the industry-standard Sequest algorithm. Housed within a standard workstation, Sequest Sorcerer is small enough to fit under a desk, takes only minutes to set up, and because it is deployed as a network appliance for use across a network and accessible from a separate client computer, searches can be submitted to Sequest Sorcerer from any PC with a simple web interface.
Users can access their raw data files as well as their Sequest search results from Sequest Sorcerer's own easy-to-navigate web interface, or from Thermo's BioWorks™ 3.2 protein identification software. To start a search, users can simply use the web interface from any networked PC to upload the raw data and protein database files, click on relevant options, and submit the search to the queue. When a search is completed, a concise summary allows quick review before downloading the results to a local PC for detailed analysis and further interrogation. Alternatively, users can launch the Sequest Sorcerer from their BioWorks 3.2 interface and interact as normal with this newly enhanced software.
The compact size of the Sequest Sorcerer provides a convenient platform for quickly searching MS/MS data, whether next to the mass spectrometer in the lab, or remotely during data processing. It includes proprietary accelerator technology and software packaged within a standard PC, but with the computing power of a Sequest Cluster with multiple processors.
