Fractured Steel Surface
A steel specimen was fractured under ultra high vacuum conditions in the MICROLAB 350. The fractured surface was then analysed in the instrument.
One of the features observed was the small crystal (about 2 microns in diameter) shown in the SEM.
An Auger spectrum from the crystal revealed that it was composed of aluminium nitride
