The TRACE GC Ultra with its extremely fast heating rates and adequately fast detector response time has enabled an enormous costs savings to be achieved in applications where the separation power of standard length capillary columns (often 150.000 theoretical plates for a 25m x 250 µm i.d. column) is often not completely exploited or even necessary. For these applications shorter columns (20-50000 theoretical plates) coated with properly tuned selective phases and operated under fast heating rates, permit the GC analysis time to be significantly reduced while preserving the separation of compounds of interest. Increase throughput and lower column and GC running costs are the immediate benefits to the lab.
The example below demonstrates a reduction in analysis time by better than a factor of five!
