High TOC values after the waste water treatment plant indicate significant concentrations of organic materials, disinfectants and disinfectant side-products, and insufficient performance of the wastewater treatment facility, where on the other hand the influent needs to be controlled to avoid the abundance of bacterial cleaning.
There are different techniques to measure the TOC, the most common are the High Temperature and the UV Persulfate method. High salts concentrations may have impact on the efficiency of the catalyst if the technique is performed at 680 °C. Normally inorganic chloride inhibits the oxidation reaction of persulfate, according the reaction: TOC analysis can also suffer from interferences and corrosive effects normally associated with high salt samples. The HiPerTOC analyzer is designed to be resistant to these effects: Any potential interfering component is removed and the detectors are not harmed by the corrosive effect.
The special design of the reactor of the HiPerTOC makes TOC analysis using UV-persulfate oxidation method possible. This report demonstrates the robustness of the UV-persulfate method for samples with high salt matrix. |
