The injection phase is a critical parameter for successful single quadrupole GC/MS analysis of pesticides in produce. Several aspects of injection were studied, including the use of protectants, conventional split/splitless injection, large volume injection, and programmable temperature vaporization (PTV). Results of the studies, including impact of different injection techniques on linearity and breakdown, indicate that use of PTV and large volume injection provides optimal GC/MS sensitivity for the compounds studied.
