Analysis of Methylphosphonic Acid (MPA), a Metabolite of Sarin, by Tandem GC Mass Spectrometry and Positive Ion Chemical Ionization
Using Tandem GC-Mass Spectrometry and Positive Ion Chemical Ionization to develope a method for the analysis of the metabolites of sarin nerve gas in urine.
The nerve gases were developed during World War II as a by product of organophosphorus (OP) insecticide research. A method was developed for the analysis of the metabolites of sarin nerve gas in urine using GC tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) and Positive Ion Chemical Ionization (PCI).

A method was validated for the analysis of sarin metabolites MPA and IPMPA in urine. Replicate injections of a calibration curve in urine gave an excellent linear fit in Full Scan and MS/MS.
