The Thermo Scientific 524 Productivity Solution was developed for the DSQ^TM II GC/MS system to address a number of analytical challenges presented by the analysis of purgeable organics in drinking water according to US EPA Method 524.2. This application note highlights the transformation of the DSQ II system into a dedicated analyzer ideal for volatiles analysis. A 5 mL purge volume was used in conjunction with purge-and-trap concentration and GC/MS analysis. The method was rigorously validated and conformed to the quality control criteria of the method. Excellent sensitivity, even with the 5 mL sample volume, and system precision allowed achievement of low detection limits.
