| US EPA Method 8260C, for the analysis of volatile organics in waste and wastewater, can be easily accomplished on the Thermo Scientific DSQ II single quadrupole GC/MS system, with good linearity and fast sample throughput. |
| Analysis of volatile (purgeable) organics in waste and wastewater according to United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) Method 8260C using purge and trap and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry presents a significant challenge to instruments and laboratories alike. This application note describes the use of the Thermo Scientific DSQ™ II GC/MS system for performing this method.
Approximately 100 compounds, including surrogates and system performance check compounds (SPCCs) were analyzed across a linear range of 1 to 200 µg/L, with an average %RSD of 6.9 across this range. The method was fully validated according to US EPA Method 8260C, and a comprehensive package was developed that facilitates implementation of this method in your lab.
