| This application note describes the use of gas chromatography with flame ionization detection (GC-FID) and a simulated on-column injection for the analysis of B-100 biodiesel according to ASTM Method D6584. A programmable temperature vaporizing (PTV) inlet operated in a simulated on-column mode allows for excellent peak shapes, even for late eluting compounds such as triglycerides. Analysis of the derivatized calibrators and unknowns is accomplished using the TRACE GC UltraTM and the AS3000 Autosampler, and peak grouping, identifications and quantification are performed using ChromQuestTM 4.2 software. The method meets ASTM D6584 requirements for sensitivity and linearity, while also offering the flexibility to perform other methods for which a PTV inlet is suited. |
