Newly Approved Ion Selective Electrode Methods for WW Testing:
On March 12, 2007, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released the long awaited Methods Update* Final Rule, which approves new and revised methods for inclusion in 40 CFR Part 136. This is the section concerning test procedure regulations (including analysis requirements) for Clean Water Act programs. Among the new methods approved are four ion selective electrode (ISE) methods for determination of chloride, cyanide, sulfide, and nitrate in wastewater for NPDES permitting. The newly EPA-approved methods are:
Thermo Fisher Scientific Orion offers high-quality ISEs and meters to meet the requirement of these methods and the technical service to back it up. Electrode measurements are simpler and faster than many other analytical techniques. Time-consuming sample preparation steps such as filtrations and distillations are rarely needed. Sample color and turbidity do not affect the measurement. Analysis time is typically within one minute.
