Post-translational modifications, such as phosphorylation and glycosylation, are associated with regulation, location and function of proteins. This low abundance, coupled with the higher acidity of phosphopeptides and low hydrophobicity of glycoproteins, complicates their analysis by mass spectrometry in positive ESI mode.
