Thermo recommends that a fresh lithium battery be used in all EPDs to ensure proper performance. Fresh batteries are those that have been produced within the last 6-9 months, based on the date stamp from the manufacturer. This will help to ensure that battery passivation effects are reduced (see SN 010--July 2004).
The recommended battery is a 3.6 V AA lithium battery (Sonnenschein SL 760) in the EPD dosimeter. Although other brands may claim to be equivalent to the Sonnenschein SL 760 we have found that they do not perform adequately under all conditions. The EPD Mk2, N & N2 dosimeters are capable of being used with alkaline batteries but they will not perform as well as with the recommended Sonnenschein SL 760 lithium battery.
In addition, to ensure proper performance of your EPD you should replace cracked or improperly fitting EPD battery caps. |
