SPC File Format
The Thermo Electron's SPC file format provides for storage of a variety of different types of data taken from laboratory analytical instrumentation, primarily spectral and chromatographic (trace) data. The SPC format  is capable of storing single or multiple arrays and is designed to be general enough to contain most types and styles of data storage such as even X spaced, non-even X spaced, variable record sizes, and 16 or 32 bit data representation. It is also capable of storing arbitrarily large descriptor blocks. All of Thermo's GRAMS products use the SPC format to store and retrieve spectral and chromatographic data from hundreds of instrument formats. Many instrument vendors offer software packages that export to the SPC format (see our Instrument and Data File Compatibility List for more information).

Writing to the SPC File Format

Thermo Electron's SPC File Developer's Kit is a tool for programmers implementing conversion routines to/from Thermo Scientifics’s SPC file format. Please contact us for details.

Thermo Scientific's SPC File Developer's Kit
This kit contains documents related to the SPC file format, information on how to write a file converter DLL to plug into the current Thermo Electron Convert engine, some sample source code for a converter, a copy of Thermo Galactic Convert engine, and documents about the internal file storage formats used for extra information.
Thermo Galactic Universal Data Format Specification
This document provides a guide for programmers to implement data reading or data writing routines for files in Thermo Scientifics's SPC data file format.  This document is included in Thermo Electrons SPC File Developer's Kit.
