GRAMS Instrument: RTE Controller

RTE Controller
This converter will also work with data collected from HP GC-MS systems that use the HP RTE controller with the HP 1000 computer.  (i.e., HP 5988A GC-MS).  However, since this is not a PC based system the data files must be converted into ChemStation format and then transferred from the RTE to the PC.  HP supplies utility software packages to do this.  The RTE to ChemStation format conversion is accomplished by using the "RTECS" utility on the RTE system.  The RTE-to-PC transfer is accomplished by using the HP "Advance Link" software and an RS-232 cable.  This utility program for RTE based systems is available from Hewlett-Packard.  See the Hewlett-Packard File Transfer Utilities section in this document or contact Thermo Electron for more information.

The transfer procedure is as follows:
  1. Connect the RS-232 cable (24542M or equivalent, 9 pin @ PC, 25 pin @RTE) between open of the RTE ports and the PC COM port.
  2. Set the port on the RTE to be a "Terminal." For example, to set port 2 of an RTE-A 4 portmux,usetheRTEcommand,"SIMDX,LU=72,PORT=2,DEVICE=TERMINAL."
  3. Use the "RTECS" utility to convert the desired RTE file into ChemStation format.  For example, to convert the RTE file "VA002::D1" into ChemStation format, the RTE command, "RTECS,VA002::D1,data.ms::scratch."
  4. On the PC, run the Advance Link software.  Configure the software using the specified settings (from Advance Link Revision B.02.00)
