Orion Cleaning Solutions Instructions
Orion Cleaning Kits are designed to simplify pH electrode maintenance. Bottles of the ready-to-use cleaning solutions are provided along with a small beaker to hold the cleaning solution and a plastic pipette for removal of electrode internal filling solutions.

The cleaning solutions are identified by the letters A, B, C, and D. Each letter designates a unique formulation to gently remove dirt and deposits from the electrode without damage to the electrode itself. Cleaning a "dirty" electrode restores proper performance and prolongs the electrode’s useful life. An assortment kit features one bottle of each solution for users working with a variety of sample matrices.

Optimal cleaning procedures are dependent upon the sample type, extent of build-up, and the electrode. The following general instructions offer a starting point for developing an effective cleaning protocol.

Note:Please read MSDS sheet and bottle label for safety information prior to use. Follow all handling instructions.

General Instructions
  1. Choose the appropriate cleaning solution. Cleaner D is a mild cleaner. If stronger cleaning will be required, use Cleaner C. Cleaners A and B target protein residues and microbiologicals, respectively.

     Requirements Use Cleaning Solution

    Protein Removal
    Disinfection Cleaner B
    General Purpose C
    Mild Detergent D

  2. Shake the cleaner bottle. Place enough of the cleaning solution to cover the junction into the beaker provided to immerse the portion of the electrode to be cleaned for a few minutes with stirring. Non-glass electrodes and electrodes with wick and fiber junctions may require more cleaning time.
  3. After soaking, rinse the electrode thoroughly with deionized water to remove all traces of cleaning solution.
  4. Where appropriate, remove internal filling solution from the electrode. A pipette is included in the kit. Replace with fresh filling solution required for the electrode application. A few rinses of filling solution may be necessary for optimal performance. Step 4 is not applicable to non-refillable electrodes.
  5. If using a Sure-FlowTM electrode, flush some fill solution through the junction of a junction electrode. Ensure any junction is functioning properly.
  6. Rinse electrode and measure as usual. If electrode is sluggish or is not performing well, repeat the cleaning procedure. Viscous and hardened samples often require additional cleaning. Additional rinsings of filling solution are recommended.
Note: The presence of particulates in Cleaner A and D will not impair effectiveness.
