 Software for Metabolism Studies
Metabolite ID & Mass Frontier™ are great tools for your metabolism identification. Metabolite ID 2.0 helps you generate a list of possible metabolites, search for any combination of isotopes and quickly generate reports. Once you have identified a possible hydroxylated metabolite for instance, Metabolite ID exports the necessary spectra to Mass Frontier where you can use several tools to locate the exact site of modification.

Proteomics Application: Biomarkers for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy
Myocardial infarction (MI) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, with approximately 500,000-700,000 deaths caused by ischemic heart disease in the United States each year. The causes of the disease have been well-established, but the build-up to a massive heart attack is difficult to predict, particularly during early stages of disease progression when prevention is still possible. Proteomics - both large-scale protein identification and quantitative differential expression - may be used to identify improved diagnostic markers and contribute to our understanding of biochemical pathways triggered during myocardial injury that might one day serve as targets for drug therapy.

Small Molecule Application: Analysis of Zeaxanthin
(3R,3'R)-zeaxanthin is one of several dietary carotenoids found in human ocular tissue. Research has shown that concentrations of zeaxanthin, as well as other carotenoids, are significantly lower than normal in the macula of persons diagnosed with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD). One mechanism by which macular carotenoids may provide protection against AMD may involve its antioxidant function. Thus, these carotenoids may be ultimately beneficial in protecting the eye from light-induced oxidative damage. The technique used in this report provides a simple and reliable way of identifying and quantifying zeaxanthin for metabolic studies.

Trap Talk: Data Dependent Neutral Loss & PTMs
Post-translational modifications, such as phosphorylation and glycosylation, are associated with regulation, location and function of proteins. Phosphoproteins and glycoproteins are generally found in low quantities within cells. This low abundance, coupled with the higher acidity of phosphopeptides and low hydrophobicity of glycoproteins, complicates their analysis by mass spectrometry in positive ESI mode. The Data Dependent scan function helps overcome the characteristic lack of peptide fragmentation...
