| Tip
of the Month: Data Dependent MSⁿ Parent Ion
Rejection |
|
 |
The Data
Dependent MSⁿ parent ion rejection allows exclusion of MSⁿ
(n>=2) precursor ion from subsequent MSⁿ+¹ analysis
selection. This is particularly useful where significant MSⁿ
precursor signal is present to automatically set up scans for
less sensitive ions. |

| Breakthrough in the
Recovery and Confirmation of rhEPO and Darbepoeitin-alfa in
Equine Plasma |
|
| For the first time
anywhere in the world, the actual presence of
rhEPO/Darbepoeitin (not antibodies) in equine plasma samples
has been confirmed by Pennsylvania Equine Toxicology &
Research Center in collaboration with New Bolton Center of the
University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine using
LC/MS/MS technology. "Analyte recovery from the matrix
involved the use of anti-EPO antibody linked to magnetic
beads. The sensitivity of the Finnigan™ LTQ™ system was the
key contributor to this breakthrough. LOD of the method is
100fg/uL. The method has been successfully used in confirming
the presence of EPO in real-world samples obtained from horses
in competition in North America." - Dr. Cornelius Uboh, The
University of Pennsylvania. * This article has been

Food Safety: Determination of Malachite Green and
Leucomalachite Green in Fish Products |
|
 |
Malachite Green
(MG), a triphenylmethane dye, is an effective and inexpensive
fungicide used in aquaculture, particularly in Asian
countries. MG reduces to Leucomalachite Green (LMG) during
metabolism, which has been shown to accumulate in fatty fish
tissues. Both MG and LMG have demonstrated putative
carcinogenic activity, and thus have been banned for use in
aquaculture by both the US FDA and European Union (EU). But
trace levels of LMG residue continues to be found in fish
product. In a 2005 report, 18 out of 27 eel products... |

| Chromatography Users
Meeting Sep 19 - Sep 20, UK |
|
Attend a FREE one-day
meeting for Chromatography Users and learn more about various
applications in LC, GC, LC/MS and GC/MS. The meetings will
take place in two convenient locations in the UK. The morning
sessions will feature a mix of presentations from both
customers and Thermo's application specialists highlighting
applications in the use of Chromatography technology. The
afternoon sessions provide an opportunity to break-out into
smaller, interactive workshops.

Quantitation of Complex Amino Acid Derivatives in Plasma using
Single Quadrupole LC/MS |
|
 |
Amino acids and
their derivatives are important biomarkers in human
physiological processes. Their identification and quantitation
can provide significant insights related to human health. This
report presents the simultaneous analysis of 40 amino acid
derivatives in plasma by single quadrupole LC/MS. The Surveyor
MSQ Plus™ was selected for this application to take advantage
of its rapid scanning abilities of up to 12,000
amu/sec... |

Intelligent Automated Mass Spectrometry
(INTAMS) |
|
| Traditionally, the
analysis of urine samples has been the major approach for the
monitoring of drugs of abuse. However, a common risk for this
type of analysis is adulteration or manipulation of the sample
at the point of collection. As an alternative, the analysis of
oral fluid provides an easy method of sample collection and
has the advantage of providing a relatively clean matrix.
Because of the reduced sample volume this technique requires a
high sensitivity... |
